Watch out for those bees!

So I came home from Japan and decided to do 2 bike races the week I got back. The first was a 40K TT which I got 4th and was really bumming out about. I really think I could have done a lot better, but oh well. The second was a crit. I started the race thinking I was not going to do very well and surprisingly did quite well from the start. I was able to stay with the front pack with cat 3 riders and a few other cat 4 riders. I felt really good until a damn bee flew into my glasses and on the way out stung me right above the eyebrow. I pulled myself out of the race because I knew I was allergic to bees and took a benadryl right away. I was fine until the next morning. My eye was swollen shut. Not fun. I hate trying to work on while on benadryl.

chicken coop

Yes, my husband let me build a chicken coop for my anniversary present! He might have a different story tho. Not all of the chickens are mine, most of them are my neighbors, I just happened to finish my coop first (thanks to the Folks) so they are all living here for the moment. The reason I have chickens is because my neighbor came across 9 FREE chicks and offered me a few. If you know me at all you know that I can't turn down FREE stuff. So the plan is for me to take 3 and the rest will be shuffled back across the street.

The exterior on the coop is not quite finished yet, I plan to put brown battens between the white boards to tie the side and front together. You can't see the roof in these photos but a good friend of mine who has a FREE problem similar to mine gave me some rustic metal siding to use for the roof! It looks sweet! I think my grandfather would be very proud of me!

Below are some more photos of the chicks, they all have names thanks to the neighbors daughter but I can't remember them.

summer sunsets in Montana

I have had a really good FREE week so far, it started on Saturday with some dog bowls and then Sunday my neighbor and I hit up a After Garage Sale FREE pile and rode our road bikes home with a few pounds of treasures, this below being the best one yet. I also hit up a snooty neighborhood and found free wood and fencing for the chicken coop (more pictures to come later).

Rockysprints Night

Here is my 5 seconds of fame! The Rockysprints Night is held Monday nights at a local bar that is right up the street from our house. Jared was out of town so I went with some of my team mates and had a blast. I think I am in both of the videos, but it is the same clip. I raced twice, lost the first one and won the second.

Over the Rainbow

Riley left us this morning to go over the Rainbow and chase Kitty Cats. There is a hole in my heart right now that will probably never go away. If you have a dog, give it a big hug and take it on a long walk!

seamstress

This past week Jared was out of town so I decided to start my own line of Spring skirts! I went to the fabric store and bought some material and a pattern and made it halfway through the cutting of the fabric before I thew the pattern away and started to wing it. I dont know if any of you have ever tried to read a pattern, but it is a whole new language. The last time I worked with a pattern it was in 4-H and I must have had my mother there to be my translator.

Anyways this is what I came up with, the first one was made partly from the pattern and new material. I was about a 1/4 inch off when I actually sewed the pieces together, but who cares, Im the only one who will actually notice.

This second skirt was a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle project. This is a jean skirt that I never wore, so I cut it shorter and added some flair.

This is my favorite, another Reduce Reuse Recycle. This was made of the pant legs of two of my favorite pairs of pants. The brown pair had been attacked by my cruiser bike chain, the blue pair's ass decided to give out on me. So now I have one skirt and two pairs of garden shorts!

Riley

This is dedicated to our Riley, she probably will not be with us for much longer. Jared can explain the details better then I can. We will miss her dearly, she is our baby. Here are some photos that just might bring a smile to your face, especially if you know her.

Recipe Time

This is an amazing recipe for pancakes! Costco has blackberries and blueberries and strawberries right now, but we made this recipe with blackberries only. It was awesome! We have to give credit to one of our local breakfast joints, The Nova Cafe. Jared had something similar last weekend so we tried to make our own.

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Lemon Curd and Fresh Raspberries
Recipe courtesy Bobby Flay - www.foodnetwork.com

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup ricotta cheese
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk (we used soy milk)
1 lemon, zested and juiced
Butter, for griddle
1 (11-ounce) jar prepared lemon curd (we used Lemon Curd Yogurt)
Fresh raspberries, for garnish (we used blackberries... I would suggest cutting them in half if they are the large berries and cooking some of them in with the batter and then adding fresh ones on top with the yogurt instead of syrup)

Combine flour, baking powder, nutmeg, salt, and sugar in a small bowl. Whisk together the cheese, eggs, milk, lemon juice and zest in a large bowl. Whisk the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Brush the hot griddle with butter. For each pancake, pour approximately 1/4 cup measure of the batter on the griddle and cook on both sides until light golden brown. Repeat until no batter remains.

Empty the contents of the lemon curd into a small saucepan and warm over low heat. Alternatively, remove the lid and place in a microwave oven on 50 percent power for 2 minutes, stopping after 1 minute to stir the curd. Drizzle a few tablespoons of the curd over the pancakes, top with fresh raspberries, and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

magazine heaven

For those of you who do not know, I work for a publishing company who publishes magazines around the western united states. I have been working on a redesign of a magazine that I will tell everyone about later... it is still a secret inside the company. Anyways, I have been browsing through different magazines to get ideas and I came across this magazine, ReadMade

If you are anything like me you should check this magazine out, the website is just as good as the magazine. I just purchased blueprints for building my own studio in our backyard!

Chopper Reed and our bathroom

This is what Montana will do to you. I think the cold weather and short gray days start to wear on a person's mind. This is how we ended our Friday night.... or maybe it was just the begining.

For those of you who have not seen our piece of art bathroom, here is the original medicine cabinet that we were able to salvage. Thanks to Jrad we have a new mirror in the door.

Here is our sink. My dad and I made the table out of an old cabinet door. It is much more impressive in person.

That was a lot of hair that came off of his head! Beautiful sink tho, huh?!

Here is along shot of the beautiful Italian Tavertine tile that I salvaged from Georges in SLC and river rock from the homestead in CDA.

This is a better shot of the tile and river rock floor

Here is a close up of my tile work on the shower wall.

And finally my tile/river rock shelve. This was not as easy as it looks to put together. AS you can see in the photo the tiles dont really match up like I wanted them to. "Whaddaya gona do"
